7) Worship should include singing, praying, speaking, shouting, clapping, showing our praise

? Sing: 2Sam 22:50 ?I will sing praises to Your name?

? Pray: Ps 69:13 ?But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.?

? Speak: Ps 40:10 ?I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.?

? Shout, clapping hands: Ps 47:1 ?Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.?

? Sometimes we sing a new song: Ps 149:1 ?Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.?

8) Worship should move your soul

? Are you affected by the experience of worship, or is it habit?

? Ps 103:1 ?Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.?

9) Worship should change your life

? Being in the presence of the Holy God will change you, if you let it

? 2 Corinthians 3:18 ?And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord\'s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.?

10) Worship should consume us

? Like a sacrifice on the altar we are swept away in the fire of the Spirit

? Heb 13:15 ?Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-- the fruit of lips that confess his name.?

11) Worship should be a time to give to God, a time to receive from God

? In addition to our words of adoration, God encourages us through gifts

? 1 Cor 12 & 14

12) Worship should be fun!

? It is, after all, a celebration!

? Ps 145:7 ?They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.?

I. Our philosophy of worship

1- How songs are picked

? Significant in word (no trite lyrics)

? Creative in execution (melody, harmony, intensity ? no sing songy)

? Varied in style (not all fast or slow, various rhythms)

? Singular in focus - directed to God not exhortation (directed to me or others)

? Singable in key (and other musical considerations)

2- How sets are created

? Temple example (Outer courts, Holy Place, Holy of Holies)

? Keep songs fresh and varied

? Sometimes it?s a theme of music, or of lyrics, or Scripture

? They are prepared in advance, but always open to the Spirit?s leading

3- How worship is conducted

? With prayer as the foundation

? With fear of the Lord and dependence on Him to lead

? We are worship leaders, not performers or artists

? With sensitivity to the Spirit?s voice

? We will worship God, you are invited along with us

4- Use of Musical instruments in worship

? Instruments mentioned:

- Trumpet

- cymbal

- flute

- organ

- tambourine

- harp or lyre (played like a guitar with a pick ? David?s instrument)

- lute (smaller lyre)

- sistrum (U shaped with objects dangling, like chime, triangle)

? 3 types

? Percussion

? Stringed (guitar/bass/paino)

? Wind (woodwinds, brass, synthesizer)

? Most important instrument we have is our voice
